Honda Civic Hatchback Coming Back to U.S.

The Honda Civic Hatchback is returning to North American after being gone for nearly a decade.

According to a report from the Nikkei, Honda will build its next-generation Civic five door at its plant in Swindon, U.K., which will begin sending cars across the pond in summer of 2016. Swindon is able to build 250,000 cars annually when running at full capacity, but currently, one of its production lines is sitting idle.

Next-Gen Honda Civic to Get Turbo Engines

Honda is overhauling its entire lineup to include turbocharged engines in the near future.

As the automaker looks to boost fuel economy, even the base-model Honda Civic will turn to a downsized turbocharged engine for its next generation. Hondas global R&D chief Yoshiharu Yamamoto confirmed the news saying, 'Downsized turbocharging will be the base, even for the Civic.' The company has also confirmed plans to start producing the turbo engines in 2015 and the redesigned Civic could make its debut as early as this year.
