Exactly. I don't remember the reason why, but I've always been told by a lot of people to just stop when the pump stops. I think it may just waste more gas than it's really worth, since it's sitting in an open tube rather then behind a check valve.

I usually just keep filling up after it clicks off, usually to the nearest dollar. Just for shits and giggles here are some reasons why you shouldn't top it off from the EPA

Stoping after it clicks off gives me 290 to 333 miles and topping it of gives me 360-370 miles. I tried stopping until it almost overflow it's gives me close to 400 miles.

Your gas tank holds 50L(11gal) so, you should never go over 45L (9.8gal) considering there's still a bit of fuel left in the tank when filling up, your gas thank needs room for fuel to expand, and your evaporative system to function properly. So I always round it off to .50 or the nearest $1.00 after it clicks.

you all are so ignorant... go ahead and destroy your brand new vehicles by overfilling them...
maybe back in the 60's, 70's and maybe even 80's it was ok to "top off".... these days you'll likely ruin your emission system and cause your check engine light to come on with time... have fun paying that repair bill before your loan's paid off
