Does anyone here know the 2012 iMid system pretty well? I have a few issues
1. Not all of my phone book will import, those attached to another account are not seen
2. File structuring for MP3's on a flash drive. Some do not play on my iMid system. They are mp3's, they are within the right kpbs. However, they might be 3 or more folders deep.

I seem to be having an issue with my imid and its ability to recognize the music on the flash drive I have plugged in inside the center armrest/storage compartment.

I have a total of approximately 550 songs on the flash drive. They are all in one folder, one level down from the root. The imid recognizes 255 of them, and goes back to the beginning.

When I plug the flash drive into my computer, and open the appropriate folder, all the songs are visible.

I have sorted the drive using a program called FAT Sorter.

Would anyone know why my car is not recognizing about half the material on the drive?

I have made a work-around to this problem.

I tried installing all the songs on two more flash drives of greater capacity. No matter which drive I used, the imid would show 255 songs, and not one more.

So I used a total of three flash drives - 255 on the first two, and then the remainder on the third one. All I'll have to do is change them after 255 songs.

Not the end of the world, although it would have been better if they would all show from one drive, considering they fit with room to spare.

Also interesting that the imid will show an ipod's total number of songs, way above 255, but not a flash drive.

I'm still open to explanations as to how and why the imid reads only 255 songs on a flash drive, and if there is a way to increase that number to all the songs above 255 on a flash drive.

Weird, it makes you wonder why the engineers didn't work this stuff out? And they are the ones that paid the big bucks?!

I know. It seems so arbitrary. I don't pretend to know the differences between how the imid reads an ipod vs a flash drive.

Someone here told me to make multiple folders on one flash drive, each containing less than 255 songs. The imid should cycle through the folders in alphabetical order.

My folders are called something like 'car songs 01' and then 02 and 03. I haven't put them all on one drive yet. I'll probably do it this weekend.

This is the first I have used a flash drive/hard drive to listen to music in a car. Last night I saved 2500 songs on a hard drive. Folders were broke down by artists. I was excited this morning to plug in my 2500 songs hit shuffle and be set on music for the next 10 years. When I plugged it in it tried to load but it will not. It just says loading...then goes to nothing then says loading and back to nothing. I am using a 750gb hard drive. I can hear the hard drive "cycling" as its trying to load. Does anyone know or can explain to me in laymans term how to make this work. Do I need to format my hard drive? Thanks for any help.

I have a lot of folders on the hard drive as I listen to a variety of music and have many artists. One folder Atmosphere I know contains 155 songs itself. Brother Ali probably another 90 or so. Do I have to many songs on the hard drive? Maybe I cant use an external Hard drive? I'm just brainstorming here....I really dont know.

If anyone cares, I ditched the hard drive and bought a 32gb flash drive. Loaded my 2500 songs on that and it works great. I just need to play with the folders a bit to get it how I like it. I think the reason the external hard drive did not work is because it wasn't a solid state hard drive.

While I haven't tried a portable drive myself, it could be that the hard drive draws more power than than the USB port can deliver. The manual does say it has over-current protection that could be why it kept cycling as you described. The other thing is that most portable drives are formatted NTFS while flashdrives are FAT32 format. It could be just the NTFS it cant read. However, you cant really format your hard drive FAT32 as you will lose 25-30% of your storage space. (well you can do this, I just wouldn't myself as I can get plenty of music on a flashdrive ).
Hope this helps...

Edit: tested NTFS file system, doesn't work with Honda. Has to be FAT32 formatted.

the usb in center console can also use to charge phones and tablets? it keeps opening notification on usb debugging mode on my nexus 6 phone..kinda annnoying

i will try a 16gb usb stick formatted in exFat to see if it reads the mp3s mp4s?

exFat does NOT work...won't load

will try fat32 formmatted usb stick

its very awkward to try and plug in a usb stick...u have to contort ur body and hands to fit the plug! i'll try to use a 3 port usb hub and i see if that works too..one port for usb mp3 playback, another port to charge phone/tablet..not sure how much current/voltage its rated at

i can confirm fat32 usb stick works with mp3 ..i have one mp3 folder with 7 songs and it detects the folder as USB folderICON01 musicSong#01,etc in the display

when i try to use a usb hub, it wont work..says 'UNSUPPORTED', i don't think u can even use the port to charge phone/device ...power or current is too weak i think

i have an old iphone4, ill try to plug that in, see what it says

wow, not bad, it picks up the iphone4 as an IPOD, shows a better cleaner music interface MENU display..definitely works well if u got iphone or ipod

i used a usb extention so the connection sticks out of the console box..imo easier access to plug and unplug ur multiple devices , i'll just get a two port cigarette charger

also its picky, it won't detect iphone if u use certain cables, maybe its gotta be those 'data and charge' usb cables, not charge only cable...and it can't be those multi pronged ones...i tried the 3 headed cheap chinese ones with the iphone5, iphone4 and android microUSB ports, it didn't detect USB (didn't load the songs)

i think it only 'reads' .mp3 files on a FAT32 device... and all music/audio types if u have iphones/ipods?(unconfirmed as i only have mp3 files on my iphone 4) i don't use itunes or pay for any music

USB Adapter

I have a 2012 that has the USB adapter inside the arm rest. When I plug in my iPhone, the phone says it's charging. At the end of a 30 mile drive, the battery on the phone has not charged (even a small amount). A friend of mine did the same with their iPhone with the same results.

Does the adapter simply not charge iPhones, or does my USB adapter need to be replaced? I have repair insurance so the cost is someone else's problem, not mine.

I tried mine tonight on my 2012 SI. iPhone 7. 55%. Charged for a 15 minute drive... 62% at the end.

It has nothing to do with "solid state." The issue is the drive format, which is fat32 for a USB but not for an HD.

Why is it everyone must randomly post inquires and get contradictory information regarding music file sorting using a USB on a Honda head set? Everyone is guessing, talking past each other. It is completely unproductive.

Isn't there a known process by which the Honda stereo reads files? It must either just read filenames, or it must read metadata. It may have limits on string length of data, total numbers of files or folders, or folder depth. But all of these details MUST BE KNOWN to the company, to the builders, to at least some user somewhere. This thrashing over poorly written questions and poorly written mistaken answers & half-fried info is just wrong and nobody should have to put up with it. Where is the real information hiding?
