With upgrades to its battery pack, and other details, the 9th generation Civic Hybrid is expected to be a definite improvement over its previous fuel-sipping iteration.
Although not projected to get the 52 MPG economy of a Prius, it will get an average 45 MPG – the best mileage for the Civic series – while projected to cost less than Toyota's popular hybrid.
The 9th gen version will mark Honda’s abandonment of old-school nickel metal hydride batteries in favor of industry-standard, lithium-ion batteries. These will power its electric motor to assist its 1.5-liter four cylinder
The new battery will be lighter, smaller, and possibly have a longer lifespan. The hybrid will also save energy with aerodynamic features, low rolling resistance tires, and ECO Assist.
