All starters will fail at some point just a matter of how many times you start. Idk if there’s a way to find out through the pcm

I think I see why you're interested.

Just looking at Youtube, it's notable how many videos there are on how to replace a starter on the 1.8L. Way more than you would expect.

I replaced the starter motor on my 2012 Accord EX-L last year right around 180k miles. While researching how to replace it myself I also got the impression this is a pretty common issue on Civics and Accords.

Curious what was your car's symptom?

It started off with slow cranking, as if the battery was low, and this went on for about a week or two. I had the battery checked and it came back good. Next was just no cranking at all. I had a mechanic friend test the starter and it was bad. Replaced it myself, which was pretty easy. It took about an hour or so total time.

Thank you very much.
What you describe is exactly what is going on with my 2012 with 52k miles.

Curious did you get an OEM starter?

For a "common issue" 180K miles is isn't too shabby.
