Hey guys, just wondering what your civics idle at? Mine seems to be getting lower. It used to idle at around 800RPM, and now I'm noticing that it idles as low as 600 RPM. I only noticed this because as the idle got lower, I noticed a vibration in the car when I'm at stop lights, etc. Here's a picture of my idle. BTW, 2013 Civic LX, currently at 16,000 kms.

Thats not good, its a auto like mine and my idle is at 800.Try taking it to the dealer. It also might be the MAF sensor.Do you have any mods on the car?Now my 8th generation civic idled at 650 RPM but that was the factory setting.

I think you'd be best off to reset the ECU and let it re-learn the environment. That is probably what the dealer would do.

Mine has the same problem. Civic lx 2013 (automatic). Started at around 5,000 miles Took it to the dealership and they did a "idle learn procedure". It improve for a bit, but started to do it again - it is random, though. I took it back again, and they told me it is normal for the rpm to fluctuate when the car is on idle. It shakes and feels like the car will shut off by itself. Not happy with the situation, will take it to other maintenance shop and will continue to bother them. This should not happen o a brad new car!

meberlyn, welcome to 9th gen.

Shawn, I hope you get your problem resolved. When the temp drops below about 27 degrees, I get a terrible vibration from what feels like the back of the car until the whole system warms up. I have an aftermarket axleback back there, and I think it's hitting the frame, which is what is making the noise, but it only happens when the car is cold, and the external temperature is < about 27, as I said.

I brought mine in but of course it didn't happen when they looked at it lol. I've been monitoring it and when my front defrost is on (any fan setting) , the RPM jumps up to about 750-800 RPM ...so no vibration. When I turn it off, the RPM shoots back down to about 600 - 650 and then the vibration begins to happen again. It's too cold to bring it in lately (-42 celcius!!!!!) so I'll wait till summer to bring it in if it's still doing it :)

The weather does weird things to cars. My Si acts weird when it's really cold out, but in the summer it feels great. And if it's really humid and hot out, like 100+, it starts to feel weird again.

It sounds normal to me because its not happening all the time because its based off load and temp. At idle its in close loop which means the timing is changing based on conditions. Is this low idle right after you come to a stop?
There is a few different reasons of this low idle, some call it a rough idle. Fuel, oil and if the engine was under knock it would apply that correction at idle which the loads are changing. Its just the ecu adjusting to condition and loads.

Just to clarify: This happens in summer and winter. So it's not weather dependant. I simply don't want to bring my car in to the dealership during winter because I'm cold and lazy lol. And yes, when you come to a stop, while holding the brake down, and the vehicle is idling, the vibration will happen and you will feel in in your chair, and steering wheel. Makes me feel like I'm driving a diesel sometimes lol.

Turn off traction control. Turn on a/c. And let idle for a few minutes. It should help. Turning off traction control will cause a few more degrees of timing and turning on the a/c raises engine load and adds fuel. If it does not work you have knock. Lots of causes but higher octane helps it. All new cars will have issues. Good luck. You can also reset the fuel trims in the ECU with a scan tool.

Did you ever find a solution? My car has been doing this for about a year. Three different places have found the fix and none of them have fixed it. Intake hose, knock and crank shaft position sensor wiring issue, motor mounts, transmission fluid flush.
