In 2014 the Civic hybrid fuel economy rating increased. I read it was due to a new CVT. The new CVT is supposed to be the new generation unit, similar to what is installed in new Accords, Fits and now CRV.

I have been unable to find information regarding start clutches - does 2014 CVT have clutches or a torque converter?

I asked the dealer and dealer doesn't really seem to know.

Previously I had a 2006 Civic hybrid - that car had start clutches. When servicing the CVT in 2006 Hybrid it was necessary to drain and fill 3 times, and engage transmission between fills to burnish the start clutches.

If 2014 CVT has torque converter and no start clutches then servicing CVT would simply be drain and fill.

If 2014 has start clutches it isn't clear if the drain and fill 3 times and burnishing the start clutches is required.

I need to find out as my Hybrid will need CVT service soon.

Thanks

My dealer just drained and refilled my own with cvtf and changed the external transmission filter
I don't know what is the exact composition but it is not the same as the mew generation cvt of the accord
But also it is more powerful than the old (2006) one
