hi friend,Not really sure what that does, but it doesn't force the update. I tried it (accidentally) when I was fooling around and got the same thing, it doesn't seem to read the USB.
That said, a little gutsy to try to force the update since it could brick your HU. 😅
If you really want to brick it (I would try this, personally, unless I were planning on replacing the HU), I'm wondering if you could just use a hex editor and edit the model information located at the top of the update file. Again, just an idea that would be to highly likely result in a brick.
I have tried on my Honda Civic 2015 EX. It says 'USB error, try again'.hi friend,
i have some unit of civic 2014 ex i can try with them, so let me now the steps for test jejeje
is it possible to install 2014 civic Si head unit on Honda civic 2015 EX?Write up done:

DIY: Carplay in Si using CRV stock head unit
Here is my write up for adding Carplay to a 2014 Civic Si for less than $150 while retaining all OEM capabilities. Parts needed: A 2016 Honda CRV EXL stock radio, its the 7 speaker one that uses an external amp. Model number 39100-T1W-A41-M1 NR-244UH 5CV50-T $120 from here CRV 2015-2016...www.9thgencivic.com
I don't believe so. Possibly this unitMy 2015 EX doesn’t have a subwoofer. Do you think the CRV head unit will still work?
Would you mind sending me thatI still have the usb he sent me. What software are you currently running. I can send you the usb if you like, I just want everyone who has our radios to get the software because Honda really fcked us when apple carplay came out.
Hey, is this is the US or UK? I have a CRV 2015 and would Love Carplay, is it still working ok? was it the SwUpdated?Guys I too saw the CRV software update and I managed to get it to work on my 2016 HR-V. Also the radio from the CR-V is plug and play with our radios. So I went ahead bought me a radio from a 2015 CRV, bought the A/M radio face plate for my HR-V and got the software from some guy on ebay that sold it to me for $50 and plugged it in and did the update.
In case somebody follows in my footsteps in the future, I figured out the problem. This thread on upgrading 2012/2013 wiring suggests using an HDMI/USB cable from an Acura. This will not work for Carplay (but nearly everything else apparently). You will need part # 39114-TR3-A21, which is the actual part for '14-'15 Civics (if you can find it). Thanks Spelvin and others for your hard work, never thought I would see CarPlay while keeping OEM functions! Very exciting stuff.
I've recently updated the wiring in my 2012 Civic LX to the 2014 equivalent (still need steering wheel HFT controls, backup camera, and LaneWatch). I was able to install the CR-V unit (perfect fit with nav bezel!) and the CarPlay beta. However, every time I tap the CarPlay icon with my iPhone plugged into the arm rest USB port, I see this error:

Works the same on my brother's 2013 Si that he upgraded to the 2014 wiring as well. USB port works fine otherwise for audio and other functions.
Hoping against hope that somebody somewhere knows something about this. I'm honestly willing to pay for info that gets CarPlay working, I want it that badly haha.
the update works on the 2015 Honda CRV SE model and with easier steps.Hey Everyone,
Recently, someone over at CR-V Owners Club posted a firmware update containing the Carplay beta, and numerous 2015-16 CR-V owners have flashed it successfully. I'm wondering if it is possible to flash this to our headunits. While they are not the same vehicle, I am hoping Honda did not go out on a limb and change the firmware/OS for a specific vehicle of the same model year (I'm referring to 2014-2015 civics with the new displayaudio headunit), and was wondering if anyone here has the balls to try and flash it. I do not have the balls, hence why I am asking if a bigger man or woman can step up and try it. I've added the links for both the thread and actual firmware update in this post.
Carplay Beta Firmware
crvownersclub thread
NOTE From reading crvownersclub, this may only work for non-nav headunits (I have one with nav)
If someone is willing to try and flash it, make sure you follow the instructions found on the crvownersclub thread, and report back your findings if possible. I would suggest only owners of 2014-2015 civics with EX, EX-L and SI trims try it.
After looking at the update file in a hex editor, looks like it is Windows CE. I wish I had a map update file to compare to, but I don't unfortunately.

P.S. I've attached the dump of signatures to this post.I've removed all the zlib's as they were just taking up space.

Hey T.HendriXon what dash kit is that? I’m interested in retrofitting a CR-V head unit into my 2015 EX (non-nav) and I’d like to keep a clean OEM look such as yours. Thanks in advance! Thanks Spelvin and others for your hard work, never thought I would see CarPlay while keeping OEM functions! Very exciting stuff.

This is just the OEM Honda bezel for the 2012 models with navigation. It seems that the CR-V unit has essentially the same dimensions as the 2012/2013 navigation units, which means those OEM bezels would be a perfect fit. So, for your case, you could probably buy the 2013 bezel (part number 77250-TR6-C11ZA, I believe) and then the little black spacer piece that sits between the unit and the rest of the bezel. I wasn't able to find a part number for that one for some reason, but you can see it in this photo:Hey T.HendriXon what dash kit is that? Definitely a little pricy, maybe you could find this bezel at a decent price used somewhere. Hope this helps!
