You'll be fine i disconnected it when swapping spoilers also and no lights came on the dash. If you want to look into an alternative 3rd brake light what I did was I ordered the 3rd brake light from a mugen 8th gen si and mounted it in the middle of the stock diffuser.

The third brake light mounted that low would not qualify as a replacement for a trunk mounted brake light. You can also get ticketed for that light if it is one of those lights that flashes because it can be considered a distraction.
