Hello all, I'm kind of new here but have had my civic ex coupe for about 10 months and love it. I'm lookin to upgrade the audio system a bit, and when I stopped into my local car audio spot they suggested 4 speakers and the sub running on a mono channel pioneer amp (GM-D9601 - NEW! - Class D Mono Amplifier with Wired Bass Boost Remote | Pioneer Electronics USA).. it's a powerful amp, but I'm curious if it will have enough juice to power 4 speakers and the sub. I haven't bought any of it yet, but was looking at these:
From what the guy said, there would be about 50 watts per speaker and about 300 for the sub..
Also, all the ohms business confuses the hell out of me, even though I've tried to read up on it for like half an hour... If my amp is rated 1 ohm, all speakers are 4 ohm, what ohm should I get for subs- they come in 2 or 4 ohms? Thanks for any help!
It sounds like your trying to run all the speakers off the single mono amp which unless you want to hear pure bass and zero voice its no good, second of your planning on running the components on the stock HU then its a waste of money on speakers if you don't plan on adding power, the amp pushes at 1 ohm but you need a 1 ohm load.so it really only makes about 300 watts rms.
And IF your installer suggested this setup I'd suggest look for another installer.

I didn't think those speakers would sound good on the stock HU (20-30 watts/speaker for 60 watt speakers).
Why would it be all bass and no voice?
Maybe I didn't say it well, the guy at the store was talking about using the pioneer mono channel 2400 watt 1 ohm amp to power 4 60 watt speakers with 4 ohms each (listed above) and a sub (I didn't talk to him about specifics of the sub, but he said there would be about 300 watts rms).
Mono amp means 1 channel,
4 speakers and 1 sub is 5 channels,
Thus beign said not possible to run off of the amp you listed unless you want bass coming out the voice speakers and eventually blow them up and the stock hu only does 15 at the most rms.
So you need a multi channel amp like the ones I listed to run everything you want, which is why I said if he recommended a mono amp to run 4 stereo speakers and a sub off the same one channel amp
Then I'd suggest looking for a new shop or installer because he has zero clue what he's taking about.

Off the top of my head a quick idea for something good would be
Massive audio nx5 amp
Or a soundstream rub 5.800 amp
Boston 6.5 coaxials up front and Boston 5.25 coaxials in the back
Get a 10 inch sub of choice
Such as Boston,Memphis,jl,cerwin Vega, infinity etc etc
And get a properly built ported box and you'll have a fairly good setup and sound really good all while keeping your stock hu
Just a quick inexpensive Nd really good sounding setup without much modification.

Look on online car stereo everything is cheaper than crutchfield. U want the most rms If. U run 1 sub try to get a 2 ohm so u can wire it on a mono amp at 4 ohms runs most efficient. I have a jl w6, it's a 4 ohm sub with kicker 750.1. Mono amp. So it runs at 2 ohm. If u run two 4ohm subs wired on mono ull get a 4 ohm load. I would rather run 4. Because efficiency and power but forced to run 2 ohm. Twice power but twice resistance through wires. Most amps don't put out much at 4ohm but its better
I'm not sure what to make of this and I'm sure most reading this are confused and in all your other posts your having power issues i don't think people will follow that lead too well.

Door speakers will typically always run at 4 ohm. But people drop imprudence levels down to 1 ohm resistance to get more power, a lot of amps are not 1 ohm stable or burn up from overload. I'm trying to decide what to try next. It's a work in progress but definetly fun tinkering with the car
Honestly Id say look the other way he's been bouncing from post to post saying he's going to get a custom alternator and is having power issues so I'm not sure what to make of it.

Yes there are a few companies that make multi channels I listed 2 that come to mind a few post back.
I was at a shop a few weeks ago and seen jl has these miniature looking amps, seems like everyone is jumping on board to make a nano series amp.
But anyways the jl for as tiny as it was(about 5x8 I think)it was pumping out some insanely clean power and at very loud volumes they had it setup obviously with jl coaxials but it had 4 jl ctx 6.5s and 1 jl 8w3v3 in a small ported box and in all my years I would of never believed an amp that size could do that insane amount of musical power one of those in any civic with properly mounted speakers and one 8 or 10 it would suffice even the most bass and SQ heads.
But I've tried Memphis Soundstream, massive, and a zapco all which were 5 channels and each person has walked away more than happy and now I can vouche for the jl series as I've heard em in person and sound insanely good
Each to their own many will do what they think sounds good even tho it goes against logic but hey that's what sets us all apart.

Any upgrade u do is going to sound better than stock. I don't know much about class a and b amps. D I've heard are most efficient but. Seems as though everyone runs a class d. I'm just tryin to learn but
A and B or A/B hybrids sound better musically wise. Digital amps(class D) are more efficient but aren't very musical.generally most people. Can't tell the sound difference and aren't in sound off competitions so its generally safe to pick any of em for most people.

You can't do it. Mono means mono. There got a sub. Put that in then add z 5 channell got the other speakers. I would question getting it find there though.
Well I should have posted sooner, but I'm definitely going with the 5 channel amp. Pretty sure I'm going to buy the parts online and install them myself. I've done a very small amount of stereo work (speakers on rear deck and doors of my 2002 monte carlo z28) but I have a couple friends who are more experienced (one who worked at the local audio store doing installs). Pretty sure I'm gonna go with:
My jl w6 was ripped or got a rip so I'm looking at maybe getting it reconed. But. Lookin at a kicker l7 to go with my kicker 750.1. Kinetic. Battery is in the mail
