Civic SI restrained engine?

Hello all,

I heard a rumor that I have not been able to confirm or reject by my research on internet...
So I am asking you the question today!

Is it true that the SI engine is not delivering all the power until you reach 3000 or 5000 or any mileage? Kind of a programmed restriction to protect the brand new engine...

This is the rumor I have been told, and I want to know the truth and know if I will get more power soon! :dancingcoolsmiley:

Actually wasn't it Hondata who re-did their dyno numbers because the first set was from when their test car was new and not making as much power as when they tested a few K later after break in?

A new engine is always a little tight. It takes a couple of thousand miles for all of the parts to wear in together. I know your gas mileage will increase over the first few weeks that you use a motor and I imagine your power numbers will as well. I would not expect anything dramatic.

If it gets more powerful with miles I am still in waiting mode after almost 24,000 miles on mine. I would say most engines are fully broken in by 1,000 miles and during that time you should not be really testing its limits anyways so it would be unnoticed by just about anyone.
