Hello!

Terribly sorry that this is my first post.

I have a 2012 civic si, with an RBC manifold, AEM intake, downpipe and a skunk 2 exhaust.

This car was sold to me with a hondata and was preloaded with one of the basemaps, upon datalogging and review I decided to get an etune as there was lots of knock.

Several names popped up and etunez was one that seemed to be priced ok and had many good reviews, 13 revisions later, my car runs good but I still have lots of knock and my kcontrol is still getting maxed out, tuner said I have bad gas and there is nothing to do but add octane booster or just drive slow. Would love to hear from other members so I can have an idea of what their experience with them was like, I am between selling the car or spending some more to get it done somewhere else.

Thanks!

Hi Allmotor,

Between 17 and 25 in a 30 minute interval, kcontrol spikes all the time under partial throttle and wot, none of the revisions seemed to get better but it definitely is better than the canned tune.

Would it be ok to post a log?

Nvm, site won't accept the extension.

HI jn2k108,

I did post there, both my log and tune are there, several downloads but not a word. My tuner told me its as good as its gonna get and blames the gas, reason why I am asking around for other folks results or experience with them.

Are they still asking you on revision 1 first file they send to you go and do a full 3rd gear pull, not knowing anything about fuel quality ect.
I’d honestly just love on don’t bother wasting your time and get a more reputable tuner to start fresh.

The tune of off they can adjust the ignition for your fuel which they have not.
Went through this with them and in the end went somewhere else.
Tuner said said it was knocking too much and they did not want to remove too much timing as it would ruin the driving experience, that gen 9's knock naturally and its impossible to completely remove unless you tuen off the knock sensor, reason why I started asking around as I see lots of folks with zero knock.

I see your post there. I'll take a look when I get home and have my laptop with FlashProManager on it.

If it's as it sounds, I'm in agreement with Allmotor. Unfortunately it's time to take your business elsewhere.

Leaving you with a crazy amount of knock and excuses, all in the name of "not ruining the driving experience," is lame to say the least.

Yes, 2k-4k 3rd gesr wot pull.

This is what I am thinking, but want to make sure spending another bunch of money will actually fix things.

Thank you, I would really appreciate some insight.

I'm retuning with them right now since my 3076R blew a bearing after 70K miles and I used a brand new 3071R that I already had on hand as a replacement. I see single digit number of knocks after 30-45 minutes of driving and about a dozen pulls. And none are under any kind of engine load, all off throttle

I know it's comparing apples to oranges a bit since I'm FI, and on a different platform. But it's just my experience.

It could be who you are working with.

Well, after looking it over, I would say things aren't so clear cut. I actually don't blame the tuner for suggesting fuel quality being an issue.

Now don't get me wrong, it's got some tweaking that could still be done. It also doesn't excuse the tuner from not preventing the straight up detonation occurring during some WOT events (Run 3 had one that resulted in 10 knock counts all on it's own). However, the ignition and fueling during nearly all of these knock events should be more than adequate to prevent them from occurring. Even on average quality 91 octane.

I would still advocate for another tuners opinion. You might also look into getting your injectors flow tested to eliminate them as a cause.

Thank you kindly for looking at my logs, injectors are new and have less than 10k miles on them but will definitely have them checked.

I will try getting another tuner from another company to have a look at the logs and see if anything can be corrected, all gas stations give similar results, that is what's really fishy.

Are you getting yours done by Steve?

That's good to know. I would say injectors are an unlikely culprit then.

That would also make some of the crappy short term fuel trims hard to explain as well... Unless the fuel is truly abysmal. Though I'm guessing you have good reason to doubt that. I'm sure you aren't the only one with a modified car around there. Surely there are others who run on the same gas and don't have the same issues?

Yea, I read he was the one to get but I was assigned someone else.
He, out of any of them I would say, is the most experienced and most knowledgeable.

Keep us posted on where a second opinion gets you.
