I have a 2012 Honda Civic EX. The electronic power steering has been randomly going out, which I understand is fairly common for my year of Civic. I bought a new EPS unit, which is part number 39980-TR3-A11 and I figured it would be a simple swap.

But after installing the new EPS, the car immediately shows the error for the power steering. I've tried different reset steps I found (e.g., turn ignition on, turn wheel to left 45 degrees, etc), but none of those variations of steps do anything. I have also disconnected the battery and left it disconnected for 20+ minutes to see if that would help reset things. No help.

Oddly, I can reconnect the old EPS and everything is fine, but as soon as I connect the new EPS, the error is immediate and consistent.
