Posting audio might help. I had my water pump blow a couple months ago, and it was making a noise for a few months leading up to that, but I wouldn't say it sounded like chain rattle.

It even does it when I put my car in drive but if I have the emergency brake on and rev it too those rpms it will make the noise

If I were you, I'd take the serpentine belt off, and spin that water pump by hand and see how it feels. Either that, or just have the shop replace it. If it is failing like mine was, you don't want it to blow when you're driving, because that caused half my coolant to dump out.

Yeah for what's it worth, mine wasn't overheating either. Water pump was working fine, the pulley was still spinning, just noisy. And then I was driving and the pump bearing exploded and the housing cracked, coolant dumped, belt came off and whipped around wildly, shredding the hood insulator.

Oh, dame sorry to hear that about your car. Mines been making this noise for who knows how long and I dont even know when I noticed it either it really just irritates me that I took it to so many ships and ppl can't find the problem and they hear the noise when I replicate it.

No worries, it's good as new now. Still think it would help to post a video so people can help diagnose it.
