Hello everyone, Im new to the forum and car audio. I have run into my first problem. I have a 2012 Lx Sedan with a 4 speaker system. I upgraded the stock speakers to Rockford Fosgate R165x3 6.5 speakers first, before recently upgrading the head unit to a Sony Mex-Gs610Bt. The HU has 5V preamp outs which i am not running into an amp, I'm getting the speaker signals from the harness off the HU. The problem is this; I was playing a particularly bass heavy song when the audio cut out. I checked the USB connection to my phone, it was fine. I switched to an AUX cable, nothing still. I switched to the radio tuner on the HU which was still powered and still no sound. After restarting my car I heard a faint popping from the speakers but still no audio coming from them. I removed the HU to check the crimp connections of the harness and they were all solid. Does anyone know of any possible causes of the problem? Is there any other stock amps or crossovers between the HU and the speakers that could be blown? Possibly the speakers are blown? I will try playing the stock HU and seeing if that works.
Was polarity correct on both ends for all 4 speakers? Also check wiring at each speaker because someone else had a similar problem and it ended up being a speaker wire grounding out on the door lol
Thanks for replying Flyboii97, coincidentally after using the search bar found the same post you are mentioning. I think I made a mistake in my wording in the original post also. The speakers are connected using Metra harnesses, whereas the poster got signal to the speakers using crimp connections. None the less I will double check the speaker connections tomorrow as well as test the system with the OEM radio.
I have no official diagnosis but i think the problem was simple. I think I caused the internal amplifier (inside the head unit? please correct me on this) to overheat in which it had an automatic shut off system because I started up the vehicle this morning and the radio worked fine after resting over night. This leads me to believe there was some overheating system to prevent from frying the internal amp.
Looks like there is some metal to metal connection on the rear deck speakers. I may have to remove the speakers and apply some electrical tape to the spot. The audio worked for nearly 3 week without a hitch until i had this problem so i dont think the metal on metal contact is a problem but i will fix it for further diagnosis.
The problem persisted. As Craig said the speaker terminal of one of the speakers was in contact with metal. To confirm this was the problem I unhooked the harness of the speaker and voila the sound plays. I then removed the speaker and applied electrical tape to the chassis and mounted the speaker once more. Problem solved.
