Just over a year ago, I started to get rust showing in my rear quarter panel on my 2014 Civic Si Coupe. I've had the car since 2019, and I am not the first owner of this car. I am aware of what causes it and that other Civics have suffered the same problem here. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do to treat it/remove it/repair it?

Unless you're experienced with body work I suggest you take it in to get fixed.

Or you can just sand it down/off, spray it with a rust-oleum paint and cover it with touch-up paint. It's a band-aid fix and won't look good but it'll keep it from spreading.

Yeah I have very little experience with body work, so I definitely don't wanna try and fix it myself. Does anyone have any recommendations to where in the Ontario GTA area that might do a good job at fixing it? My local bodyshop doesn't really specialize in Rust, so that's why I am asking.

"specialize in rust"?? Any local body shop should be able to fix that no problem.

Maybe it's just my local bodyshop. They've done scratch and dent repair services for me but they won't even bother looking at the rust.

if youre not looking for perfect, and want to DIY and stop the rust.
provided there is no rot through under the bubbled paint.

remove the screw and pull the corners of the bumper cover away from the quarter panel.

wont be perfect but will stop the decay, and will be a fraction of the cost of a body shop.

Damn dude I have rust in the exact same spot. It's bubbling up the paint and probably 3 inches across. I got a quote this week and they wanted $1800, but they planned to cut and replace that area with new steel, and repaint it. Weird that the quote included replacing the VTEC sticker too, which doesn't need to be replaced and far enough away from that area, so I'm gonna get another quote or two. Definitely a wake up call to take care of some of my paint chips before they become a problem.

That's because most (good) body shops won't just paint fenders and/or the sections that are being repaired, they'll blend the paint in with the rest of the surrounding panels. They "blend" the new paint job with the rest of the car so it's not obvious that it was painted, which is ultimately what you want. That's good body work.

To avoid that, I would just get a new fender and get a quote on how much it'll be to paint it.

it all depends on how well you want to restore a 9 year old civic with unknown mileage.

it is an SI which are in demand, either way I would por-15 the rust after proper treatment to stop the cancer.

whether they shoot the whole side to blend or you do a patch fix, stopping the rust is the most important.

since its winter and salt time in your area, just shoot some krown or rust check in the can on the rust areas until the spring.
those products stop rust in its tracks, but wear off in time.
remove the screws in the bumper cover pull it back and shoot those metal areas behind it.
willing to wager there is rust behind the bumper cover as well.

painting a vehicle in the winter is not a wise idea, esp large areas and even in a pro setting.

if its just surface rust from peeling paint, its repairable.
cut and weld will only rot worse in the future.
most never do the job properly, or spray cavity wax in behind the panels after welding to halt the corrosion process.

this is where the rot begins, and within 5-10 years that area will look like trash.

Hey Beeshabo. Could be wrong, but my understanding is that the rear quarter panel is welded to the body. Might be hard to get that weld looking like the factory bead cuz I'm guessing a robot does that.
