SPLITSECOND's "not so splitsecond" (slow) fb6 build.

Sup everyone, I'm new to this forum, but not new to the scene. A little bit about myself, my name is Ryan and I'm from California. I have had my fair share of cars (civics): 93 si, 96 hatch, 89 sedan, 95 hatch (previous build), and my current car, which is a 2015 Civic SI sedan in MSM. I was going to use this care as a daily, while I built my 95 hatch project, but personal issues kept me from doing so. I ended up selling my hatch to a good friend who I know will take very good care of it. I'm still in the process of selling parts for it if any of you are looking for eg parts. Just ask and I'll let you know if I have it or not. This is great news for you guys cause that means I get to mess around with this car. Ok, now on to the fb6... I really wanted a red or white one, but mostly red. I couldn't find any in the area without having to order and wait for it. This one was the 2nd one I saw during my search and for some reason instantly fell in love with the color. I think it's because I bought it on Valentine's day of this year. A few hours later, I ended up driving it out of the lot with only 4 miles. And all I can say is that I couldn't be happier with my decision.

PS: Please don't mind the crappy pics. Most if not all of these pics will be taken with my Galaxy S5.

Probably doesn't matter, but a few pics of my 95 hatch before being painted red and the tear down began. Good ol' times.

Now onto the SI. I don't have many pics of it after being bought cause it was meant to be a daily, but then again we already know how these cars look like since we all have 9th gens. I do have this booty shot though.

Got my plates in the mail a little later and I hated the dealer frames, so I found some from a dude off of HT. I love how the red compliments the red SI emblem.

One night during work, I was bored and decided to make some purchases. Picked up some OEM Honda door visors from Handa (yes it's Handa for those of you that don't know that site) and a rear window wing from spoiler king.

Got the door visors in a few days later.

And a few days after that, I got my rear window wing. I love the look of it. I'm not a fan of the big rear window visor. I went with the little flush flare look.

I have not put the rear window wing on yet cause I plan to paint match it, but I'm waiting on a part that should be coming in this Friday. I plan to paint that as well and decided to do it all at once, instead of going 2 separate times.

But, just to get an idea... this is how it should look. (The pic may be small, but you get the idea. lol)

I also picked up some Nokya Hyper Yellow DRL bulbs. I just have this pic of them installed, but not turned on. I do have to say that I really love these bulbs. (Don't mind the dirty hood)

And how the car sits now next to my weekend warrior. It still looks stock lol. But then again this is a slow build.

Hopefully, I'll have an update by this weekend. Until next time. :icon_wave:

Welcome to 9th gen, Ryan.

I woulda kept the hatch. It looks about perfect (I'm into 'older' cars).
Thanks bro. I would have kept it too. If it looks perfect there, then you would have been in for a treat if I finished it. Just got into some personal issues and couldn't keep it as a project anymore with the other responsibilities I have. But, I do plan to build another eg in the future. It was my first car and will always be my favorite chassis.

You just changed my mind on them rear window wings, nice! Looking forward to seeing it painted and on the ride...
I hope I changed it in a good way.

Welcome! Cant wait too see what you got in store!
Thanks bro, I'm excited too. Learning more and more about these newer Hondas. Use to the old school stuff. It should be fun, though.

Welcome to the forum love the color of the fb6 I was actually planning on getting that color but it wouldve had to been ordered and i got a good deal on my dyno blue si but still love it
Yeah, ordering and waiting sucks. I was too eager to wait for the color I wanted as well. But, I'm very happy with my choice.

Welcome, the build is starting out great! I love subtlety of MSM. I'm eager to see how the rear window lip looks painted
Thanks. I can't wait to see how it looks either. I just got the part that I was waiting for today, so hopefully I can get them out to paint and get some updates for you guys.

It's a gurney flap! This thing is perfect. It is so sturdy and you can tell it was made out of very durable material. it also doesn't get in the way of the 3rd brake light. :eusa_clap: I have some pics of it being test fitted and obviously it has it's gaps cause I haven't secured it properly, but I know the lines will match up perfectly when I do. It is different than the PasswordJDM due to it not being carbon fiber and the length of it. It is shorter, but thicker. I do have a question for you guys cause I need your opinion. Should I paint match the gurney flap along with the rear window wing, keep it the same color, or have them shoot a clear coat over it to make it gloss black? So... paint matched MSM, gloss black, or leave it?

Just dropped off the rear window wing to a local paint shop. We'll see how it ends up. Hopefully it ends up being just the way I want it cause I'll be using them again if it is. They do a lot of classic cars and they all look good, so I'm pretty sure they can do a little window wing. It should be done by Thursday. I also ordered OEM Honda red H emblems from ICB, which should be here Friday.

I also decided to put the gurney flap on without painting it. I like how it looks with the original finish. Adds a little contrast. I could always end up painting it later in the future if I decide to change things up, but for now it stays the original color. The fitment is perfect.

Late Post: So, I ended up getting my red emblems in sooner than expected and those things are shiny! I love buying from ICB. I know their emblems are cheaper than every where else, and are still genuine Honda.

I also picked up my rear window wing from the paint shop and WOW did they do a job. I'm going to be using them again. I was kinda iffy about using them especially when the painter said he's never painted something like it before (material wise), but they were the cheapest around and their name was on the line, so I knew they wouldn't mess up that bad. But if you're in the socal area and need a very good paint job check out LA Kool Kars. They are ran by some nice old white guys lol.

Sorry about the smudge on the wing that you see in the pics, my hands weren't all that clean and I accidentally touched it. But, it wiped off easily.

Matched perfectly.

I also ended up putting the emblems and the wing on, but wasn't able to take any good pics since I did them closer to night time. The emblems were pretty easy for the most part. I did end up losing a clip to my front grill. I'm pretty sure most of you know which clips I'm talking about, but if you don't, they are the clips that are holding the grill to the bumper and are faced upside down. I pushed too hard and lost it in the motor somewhere. Good thing they are only $0.26 on hondaautomotiveparts. The wing was more complicated to put on. I had the help of my cousin. There was no way I was able to do that alone. I also used epoxy glue for that extra adhesive strength. I'll have pics of it asap for those of you who wanted to see it as a finished product and on the car.

Was able to snap a few pics of the emblems and rear window wing yesterday before I started work and before the sun went down. Don't mind my weekend warrior in the back. Sorry the car is a little dirty. Or dirty in my mind, since I wash it every Sunday.
