The Honda Civic Type R has set its second lap record at a track, this time at Magny-Cours GP in France.

The new Civic Type R put itself on the map when it became the fastest front-wheel-drive production car to ever lap the Nurburgring with a time of 7:43.8. That record was set in April 2017 and now the Civic Type R has lapped Magny-Cours in 2:01.51 for a record. Piloting the Type R was WTCR driver Esteban Guerrieri, who is competing in the 2018 FIA World Touring Car Cup in a Honda Civic Type R with Münnich Motorsport.

This is the first record set as part of the Honda Civic Type R Challenge 2018, which will see a team of Honda racing stars trying to break front-wheel-drive lap records at several racetracks in Europe, including Estoril, Hungaroring, Silverstone, and Spa-Francorchamps. A similar challenge was done in 2016.

I can only imagine what this car could be with AWD.

I traded in my 2015 Si for a Type R and I honestly think AWD would hurt this vehicle. It would need a power bump to make up for the extra weight and would probably lose alot of the driving feel it has because of it. The car is so well engineered it barely feels like a FWD car when throwing it around in corners.

Maybe I'm wrong and an AWD R would be amazing and hopefully Honda has one in the works!! :)
