Apple Carplay with OEM head unit and OEM functionality

For this example I installed a head unit from a 2016 CR-V EX (6 speakers) on my 2015 Civic EX (6 speakers)

What you’ll need:
2015-2016 Honda CR-V EX Head Unit (6 Speakers)(Non-Navigation) (this will not work with navigation/touring model head units)

2013 Honda Civic Navigation Model Bezel (I think only the EX, EX-L, and SI offered the navigation option)

Note: if you have the LX (4 speakers) I believe you should look for the head unit from CR-V SE (4 speakers) but I’m theorizing, do your own research!

It’s quite literally plug and play as far installing the head unit. (Note: the brackets holding the original head unit wont work on the new head unit so I just installed it without them.) Once the head unit is in place, you just update the software and disconnect the compass (this is done to remove the car’s compass from interfering with the CarPlay maps)

And that’s about it!

As far as notes, I’m having issues with the clock, it seems since I disconnected the compass, the car resets the clock every time I start the car. Thankfully though, when in the CarPlay mode, the time on the display is correct, so I can live with this compromise.

I did this to my 2015 Si with factory navigation and works without issue. I was able to locate a 7 speaker CR-V radio for a good price. I did not plug in the GPS cable in and everything works great. The 2015 Si oem radio is larger than the oem CR-V radio so the bezel will not work. If you want the clean oem look for the Si you will need to order the bezel panel from a 2013 Si with factory navigation. The bezel panel will come with the trim piece that goes around the radio. It is pricey at about $200, unless you can find a used one on eBay or junkyard. I also recommend ordering the radio brackets for the 2013 oem navigation unit also which fits the oem CR-V radio perfectly. The brackets also mounts to 2013 bezel panel which helps hold the CR-V radio firmly in place. The part numbers are below if anyone is interested in having the clean oem look for their Si:

PANEL ASSEMBLY, CENTER
NH896L [CARBON EMBOSS FILM]
Product ID: 77250-TR7-C11ZA

BRACKET, RADIO [DRIVER]
Product ID: 77256-TRO-A00
BRACKET, RADIO [PASS. SIDE]
Product ID: 77255-TRO-A00

Here is a pic of it installed in my Si.

The 2014 & 2015 Vent Outlet Assembly that mounts to the Panel Assembly is different than the 2013 Vent. The left-hand mounting tab is slightly higher than on the 2013 and therefore does not mesh up quite perfectly with the 2013 Panel Assembly therefore if you want a completely seamless look order the 2013 Vent. Another thing I noticed is that if you order the mounting brackets, 4 screws are needed, 2 for each bracket, to mount the unit to the back of the Panel Assembly.

2013 Vent Outlet Assembly 77610-TR6-C01ZA
Screw, Tapping (4X12) 93913-24220 (order 4 of these)

I have a 2014 Honda Civic EX-L with Nav and this option is really looking like something I might want to do. I wanted to install a wireless CarPlay receiver, but there are issues with my specific model and using the Maestro RR to retain the LaneWatch camera and iMID display. Anyone have any luck with this in a 2014 with Nav?

Beautiful job. Though you give up navigation? Can you use navigation from the iPhone?

How much did you pay for the CRV head unit?

Thanks

Installed 39100-T1W-A01-M1 in my 2014 Civic EX-L w/o Nav (6 speaker) yesterday and went great. Firmware update process was smooth no issues. I have it mounted with the stock radio brackets and dash for now until the 2013 bezel w/ Nav comes in.

Everything works great. With the GPS wire unplugged on the back of the radio it's working excellent when driving. I left GPS plugged in while booting the first time so the time is synced for now. I'll use the service menu trick if I ever lose power.

One super small thing I noticed is the parking guide lines on the reverse camera are in different places than the OEM radio. They're wider. If the default lines are on the inside edges of a parking space, I'd say these lines are now on the outside. This really isn't a big deal to me but wondering if there's any adjustment that can be done or if someone figured out how to fix it. It's interesting because I think the CRV has the same lines as the Civic spacing wise. The lanewatch camera lines seems the same to me, haven't really looked that one over and compared yet.

I tried this video here:

The guideline setup page has all my camera options greyed out. The spacing looks similar to OEM Civic too.

Overall very happy with how everything is working. IMO better and cheaper than an aftermarket Kenwood unit I had prior that cost 2x the price including the radio, radio brackets and 2013 Nav bezel.

2013 Civic Nav Bezel (part number for bezel: 77250-TR6-C11ZA, brackets: 77255-TR0-A00 and 77256-TR0-A00). Top right screw near radio for AC vent doesn't fit because it's a 2013 bezel. I did my best to keep it in place and get that screw snug so the vent wouldn't move when touching it. It's not lined up perfect but it's close enough. The other 2 screws are snug. The alternative is having all 3 fully tightened down but you'll see the edge of the vent a bit.

Hi guys, I'm just about 80% done with my install process. I got the CRV headunit plugged in & it operates to the screen where I have to put in the anti-theft code. Well I followed everyone's instruction where I plug in my VIN & the serial # on the CRV unit to the website MyGarage. The problem is when I hit submit, I get stuck on the next page where it says "Data Loading" - it just stays on that page. Anyone have a workaround to get the anti-theft code?

EDIT: Ok I got a code to display from the website. I just followed instructions for this old reddit forum and it worked.

EDIT2: Ok so I buttoned up everything and it works! Thank you everyone for the resource! My last hiccup during this process was trying to get the radio updated for CarPlay but I kept getting a USB error. I must have used 5 different USB flash drives formatted in Fat32, ExFat, or different bitrates but I finally tried one last step and found a solution! Instead of using the armrest USB slot, I tried the front console and it magically prompted the update & didn't give me the error. shrug Nonetheless, I wasn't satisfied with the quality of 3D print on the SLT file to fill out the gap. I'll try a 3rd party 3D-printing service for higher quality or continue my search for a 2013 trim with carbon fiber bezel. Cheers everyone!
