I know some of you guys don't want to hear it, but the inexpensive generic ebay axlebacks sound deep, throaty, not loud, and not fartcan-ricey. I can run through the gears, windows up or down, digging the sound of the exhaust, and bother virtually no one. And no drone at any speed.

Some of us got the ones made for 8th gen SIs and put 'em on our R18s. I've had two of them on two cars, and I am, and have been, very happy with them.

Scotty, when you say generic e-bay axle backs, are you saying they don't have a company name associated with them? Or they're just names no one has heard of? I tried the Injen and it had way too much drone, so I'm looking for another cheap axle back. I just want to have a little fun with it and go back to stock when I feel like it. I'll have a search on e-bay now.

This is it.

Fit 06 10 Civic 2 4 Dr Stainless Steel Axle Back Exhaust Muffler 4" Burn Tip | eBay

It's a no-name, and I got it from this particular seller. I'm gonna make a drive-by video this weekend and post it here so anyone interested in an inexpensive axleback can hear what this sounds like (sort of, because they never sound exactly the same on video as they do in real life).

they're saying this one doesn't fit a 2012, unless I'm looking at something incorrectly.

It fits all 9th gens (R18), although some modification of the rear rubber hanger donut is necessary. On either of my cars, I flipped the donut upside down and extended the hanger bracket on the frame, or used one of the large donut holes for the muffler's securing arms instead of the two small ones.

I guess I missed the part that said it's for the R18. I have an Si.

Lotsa fun choices, but I agree that the stock sounds pretty good. Any money spent on such things is lost when time to trade, actually decreases the value.
I think the stock Si exhaust sounds great. I dig it on the rare occasions every time one goes by me on the road.

The stock R18 exhaust sounds like fashitz. That's why I got an axleback.

I don't think you missed anything. I was simply recommending the generic ebay axleback that happens to fit 9th gen R18s.

The deepest sounding exhaust on these cars you will find is Full Race 3 inch and under "normal" driving (meaning cruising no hard pulls) then it can be quiet for a 3 inch, but it is definately not quiet when you do any aggressive driving

Oops just realized this thread is older and for an r18

q300 is great. I have it and have no issues and it has saved me countless times from cops. if anything, my intake out performs the sound of my exhasut in terms of loudness

The "best" choice is pretty subjective, but if money is no object and you're pretty handy, you should just get a cutoff valve and use an arduino to have it trigger when your TPS is over 4 volts. Then you'd have open "headers" for WOT, and an otherwise completely stock exhaust system for cruising. I would highly, *highly* recommend a tune with this kind of setup (you'll run pretty lean at WOT).

JEGS Electric Exhaust Cutouts | JEGS Performance Products

I've been debating running one of these on my own car for a while, but the Magnaflow hasn't worn out enough to bother me just yet.
