Well fuel injectors are typically a bit noisy with a clicking/ticking sound. From my experience it is louder on direct injection cars but even with port it can still be audible. If your car is driving normally then I wouldn't sweat it. Plus, you have a long warranty ahead of you in case something happens.

 

I think it's the valves. I noticed they are very loud on my car even new. You probably heard it cause it was reverberating off the wall of the Arbys. Take it in to the dealer and have them see if your valves need to be adjusted. If it's nothing they'll just tell you it's nothing and give you your car back. No charges should be involved.

I know the Purge Control Solenoid can be loud, but I also have no idea if that's what it is or what it looks like. Im also not sure what valves needing to be tightened sounds like either.

 

Find and listen to another like car before you go all "chicken little" about the noise.
Engines make noise, it's how the noise compares, to a know good engine that counts.

Not always true... If a tech has to spend time looking into something, let alone pull a valve cover off n chexk valves he gers paid somehow, or should atleast... if no wareantable issues are found the cost will be on the person who brought the car in to be checked.

 

Yeah this is kinda why im hesitant to take it to the dealer.

 

the clearance between the rocker arms and the valves may be too big which could cause ticking but it likely is fine, these cars tick like that normally its not just an Si thing

 

Mines doing the same thing again runs and performs fine but still sketches me out lol

It's fly-by-wire, there isn't any.

 

yeah i would agree with that injectors, its normal..

 

yeah almost all if not all new cars don't have cable controlled throttle bodies anymore they are all controlled by a signal the ecu sends and receives

 

honda engines just tick. its by design, they do not have hydraulic lifters or anything to take up valve lash. its a solid set up, with the adjuster on one end of each rocker arm to valve tip contact point. there is by design a gap there, there is an audible tick even with valves perfectly adjusted. injectors also make noise ( especially the new direct injected stuff,(not yours)) your best bet honestly, would be to track down another 13 civic with the same engine and listen to compare, multiple if possible... if yours is significantly louder then you have a reason to be concerned, it not, then dont worry about it.

 

I guess my main worry was if it was the valves needing re-alignment. Since im not sure what that sounds like.

 

Sounds like the injectors. I thought the same thing when I bought my '12 and i'm a hands on guy so i checked the valves. Needless to say they were all fine and didn't need a thing. I think the k24 in considerably noisier than previous Honda motors like the H series or B series with properly adjusted valves. I've learned to not listen for it since I know it's normal.

I'm with the others on injector noise...
One or 2 loose valves would not make that much racket.
Plus to my ears the noise is way to fast to be loose valves with the engine @ idle, turning over at 700 to 850 rpm.

 

UPDATE: Took it to the service dept. He said it sounded normal, which it sounded less "ticky" today but today was much warmer (and I had driven it further today).

He also let me listen to a 13' Civic, and it pretty much sounded the same. It was def. not at "ticky" today but im assuming that's because it was more warmed up and warmer today (wonder why it ticked more when it was colder?)

That being said I asked about valves and he said if the valves needed tightening it would be more "Knocky" and pretty easy to tell it was the valves (True or not?)

 

Reviving old post. I have a 2015 Civic Sedan SE. I had a ticking noise that was very audible at VERY light acceleration, then the sound was drowned out by environmental noise as the car increased in speed. It has been making this noise since I drove it off of the lot. I thought it was normal. It wasn't until about 20k miles later that I noticed that this noise was not normal. I drove my wifes car (same exact car, different color), her car seems to drive smoother and has no ticking noise. I put off taking my car in for awhile just because I had other things going on. FINALLY got it to the dealership though. At first they told me that they didnt hear it, so I offered to swing by and show them the noise. They heard it, and immediately the tech came out and said it sounded like it was coming from the lower end of the motor. Awesome.

This was about 2 weeks ago. Since, they have replaced the tensioner belt pulley system, the water pump, the oil pump, and the AC clutch system. Still nothing. The service guys have been awesome and it sounds like Honda is making them do all of this stuff before replacing the lower end of the motor. So that's where I am at today. Updates to follow.


Note: The noise could be duplicated by depressing the brake and applying the throttle. Not much throttle is needed, basically just set your foot on the gas pedal, increase the engine RPM by 100 or so and it should be audible. Sometimes it doesn't make the noise immediately. Put it in drive (if it's not already), pull forward several feet, throw it in reverse and do the whole brake and throttle thing again. The noise does not seem to be effected by the temperature outside, nor is it effected by engine temp. I could hear the noise 95% of the time when accelerating before the ticking got drowned out by all of the other noises.
