I have a 2012 civic lx , the remote unlocks and locks the door and the key works in the ignition but will not work manually to lock or unlock the door. if the battery dies I need to have the key work so I don't get stranded somewhere. Am I doing something wrong or is there a setting that has not been enabled for the mechanical key to work in the door lock? thanks for any help. The guy I purchased it from has no idea and no help. He said he never used the regular key except in the ignition. Maybe this issue has been brought up before but I could not find any similar posts.

My '15 LX doesn't allow me to unlock the door manually, either. I just attributed it to someone jamming something in there at one point. Given where I park at work, that is entirely possible.

Having an extra key is 'ghetto?' What does that even mean?

He has a 12 and you have a 15. As far as I know 2012 doesn’t have the push start. Having 2 keys, one to open the door and then one to start the car is inconvenient. You have both on your persons and lose one. Can’t do the other. Might as well 1. Replace all the lock cylinders since someone tried to get in already, or 2 get a new cylinder re keyed to the existing key. You can buy some blanks on Amazon and have a good locksmith try to match the laser cuts.

When I say ghetto, I mean ratchet

haha, okay, I don't know what 'ratchet' means, either, in this context.

My '15 does not have a push start, either. The key must be inserted into the steering column, just as it did in my '12.

Anyway, having a second key is in no way inconvenient for me. I always use the remote unlock on my original key, and use the new non-remote door lock key ONLY when the original remote key fails which is has been once in the last 8 years when the battery in the key died.

Absolutely not a problem at all.

That being said, both of our fixes work, but mine is way less expensive and the results are virtually identical. We both use our original keys 99.9% of the time.
