Miles, MPG, trip, etc. no longer show up on i-MID

Hey guys,

Earlier today, my mileage, my miles, my trip, everything was showing up on my i-MID. Fast forward to tonight, everything is gone! The screen that usually shows the trip, the MPG, and the estimated range is empty. The blue "template" of where things would go is still there, but no text. However, if I play the radio, that does show up on the top strip of text. I tried turning the car off and on several times - no luck. I also tried to reset Trip A, and I got a message saying Trip A could not be reset. I had the same issue when I tried to reset Trip B. Additionally, I tried to change the current trip being displayed (Trip A, Trip B, and odometer), but that did not help either.

This is a 2012 LX. It's been raining quite heavily lately, could that have something to do with it?

Any ideas? Could I somehow hard reset the trip meters or the i-MID? Anyone else had this issue? I'd rather avoid going to my dealership, so I hope it doesn't come down to that.

That happened once to me before. The information in the i-mid was all gone. After a day or two, the data was back again.

Resetting via the menu didn't help.

However, I discovered the following: after going into the hidden menu (hold menu + source), and opening the In Line Diag menu, one of the items is RED and says "M-BCAN:NG" .. (see pic below)

Any ideas what this means? I looked in the manual but I didn't find anything. Googling it didn't help either. I'm assuming it's an internal Honda diagnostic code so there isn't much public information on it.

idk.
could be indicating that a can bus is not working properly, not sure if that's how the system is set up.
a hard reset, disconnect the battery for 5 minutes then reconnect may remedy it, idk.
maybe another member will have more info.

Gonna try disconnecting the battery for a while.

If that doesn't help, I'll take it to the nearest Honda service center. I just hope that a) they won't be stumped and b) they'll focus on the i-MID instead of taking 2-3 hours looking at my tires, filters, etc.

Disconnecting the battery for 10 to 15 minutes did the trick! Diagnostics all say "OK" (green) now, and my mileage, odometer, etc. show up fine.

I've seen other people post about the same issue, but no one ever posted a solution. So if you run into the same issue, disconnect your battery for 10 to 15 minutes (*), then plug it back in, and all should be fine!

(*) if you're a newbie like me, you might have some trouble disconnecting the battery for the first time. Just loosen the nut on the NEGATIVE terminal (NOT the positive (red) terminal), then play with it until you get it off. Mine was stuck on there pretty hard, even after loosening the nut. Leave it off for a while, making sure it doesn't short circuit anything, then put it back on the way it was. Turn on the car, and voilà!
