Is the clutch slipping? Is the engine revving and the car is not moving as quickly as it sounds like it should be moving?

Mine makes that noise too, occasionally. But it lasts like maybe a second or so.

 

That's the noise I thought it was, but it didn't sound anything like that when it happened to me, sounded more like Chewbacca than what OP sounds like.

 

Hey guys, thank you for the quick replies. I’ve actually seen a post in particular stating that this seems to be a common issue for the 9th gen civics. A user in particular stated that their throw out and pilot bearing needed to be replaced and the noise seems to subside. There’s also a video showing a similar noise I was experiencing towards the bottom of the page. I’ll post the link to that discussion here. I’ll still take it to the mechanic soon to have it inspected. Thanks you guys for your help!

Updated throw out bearing gets rid of the noise completely

 

Interesting... do you know what year the updated throw out bearings were put in place?

 

Thank you guys for all of the updates. I will get this addressed soon. While the transmission is being worked on, I was thinking about potentially upgrading the clutch too. What clutch do you guys recommended? I have an exhaust, HPS coupler, and tune. I don’t plan on doing anything else to it at the moment. I was thinking an exedy clutch kit since it’s pretty close to OEM but I cannot find a kit that includes a flywheel too. Action clutch and clutch master is also an option I’ve been looking at.

 

89k miles a little low for replacing the whole clutch don't you think? You slipping at all?

 

I have no idea when it was updated. When my tob made so much noise last year that was worse than the normal Chewbacca, I had it replaced with the clutch and no more noise

 

That doesn't make any sense. If you just replaced it with a new one, the noise would be gone regardless.

 

It's the clutch brake you have to give it time to release or you will destroy the clutch brake

 

WTF is a clutch brake?

 

If it sounds like a groan, it's a loose or bowing spring on the clutch plate.
My '12 Si does it with 135k miles on it. More of an irritation to me, I don't think replacing the clutch is necessary until it's failing.
I drive pretty hard very often and it doesn't affect performance.

 

Time for a new clutch kit. But 89k is low! You need to rev match when down shifting and not dump the clutch so much. Unless you about that life 🤣 I babied mine and made it to 180,000 miles on the stock clutch. Burn rubber not you're clutch lol
