Hey Everyone,

Recently, someone over at CR-V Owners Club posted a firmware update containing the Carplay beta, and numerous 2015-16 CR-V owners have flashed it successfully. I'm wondering if it is possible to flash this to our headunits. While they are not the same vehicle, I am hoping Honda did not go out on a limb and change the firmware/OS for a specific vehicle of the same model year (I'm referring to 2014-2015 civics with the new displayaudio headunit), and was wondering if anyone here has the balls to try and flash it. I do not have the balls, hence why I am asking if a bigger man or woman can step up and try it. I've added the links for both the thread and actual firmware update in this post.

NOTE From reading crvownersclub, this may only work for non-nav headunits (I have one with nav)
If someone is willing to try and flash it, make sure you follow the instructions found on the crvownersclub thread, and report back your findings if possible. I would suggest only owners of 2014-2015 civics with EX, EX-L and SI trims try it.

After looking at the update file in a hex editor, looks like it is Windows CE. I wish I had a map update file to compare to, but I don't unfortunately.

P.S. I've attached the dump of signatures to this post.I've removed all the zlib's as they were just taking up space.

Thanks,
achonda

I just did the firmware update on my wife's 2016 CR-V. Now I am looking at doing the CR-V head swap on my 2014 Civic. Only thing I am concerned about is the 2014 Si has a factory amp. I have not been able to find anything on the CR-V sites about a factory amp. A NOS CRV head unit is just over $100 on Ebay, so I may just go for it anyway and will report back.

Hey buddy the CRV does have a trim level with an amp and subwoofer. If your civic has the same options than you can get one of those unit. I found a company that sells them for a really good price on ebay. I suggest pulling your radio and looking in the back to see if it has the circled connector. If it does than you have a factory subwoofer and this radio would work on your Civic.

Well, After a bunch of hoops, I have the CRV head running in my Si, mostly...
Looks like I may need to chat with a dealership to get a PIN as I get an odd diagnostic screen that comes up asking for the PIN. I can get out of this screen by pressing and holding Power, Home and eject for 2 seconds and that will drop me into the normal menu. Problem is I have to do this EVERY time I start the car. I tried getting the PIN from radio-navicode but it says the serial number is not valid for my VIN. I also tried using the VIN from my wife's CRV, but get the same error.

Here is the weird diag screen I get in case any one knows how to get rid of it:

WOO! Thanks to suggestions from Johan0600 I have CarPlay in my 2014 Civic Si for less than $150 and while retaining Lane watch, Backup camera, Imid, steering controls and everything.

I will be doing a short write up with my process in a new thread soon.

is it possible to install 2014 civic Si head unit on Honda civic 2015 EX?

I don't believe so. Possibly this unit
But it is listed as sold out there so you would need to find it somewhere else.

Thanks Spelvin and others for your hard work, never thought I would see CarPlay while keeping OEM functions! Very exciting stuff.

I've recently updated the wiring in my 2012 Civic LX to the 2014 equivalent (still need steering wheel HFT controls, backup camera, and LaneWatch). I was able to install the CR-V unit (perfect fit with nav bezel!) and the CarPlay beta. However, every time I tap the CarPlay icon with my iPhone plugged into the arm rest USB port, I see this error:

Works the same on my brother's 2013 Si that he upgraded to the 2014 wiring as well. USB port works fine otherwise for audio and other functions.

Hoping against hope that somebody somewhere knows something about this. I'm honestly willing to pay for info that gets CarPlay working, I want it that badly haha.

In case somebody follows in my footsteps in the future, I figured out the problem. This thread on upgrading 2012/2013 wiring suggests using an HDMI/USB cable from an Acura. This will not work for Carplay (but nearly everything else apparently). You will need part # 39114-TR3-A21, which is the actual part for '14-'15 Civics (if you can find it).

Swapped this part out, everything works! Carplay in a 2012 Civic!

This YOUTUBE video…

will give you accurate and simple to follow instructions to install APPLE CAR PLAY on a HONDA CRV EX/EXL 2015-2016 WITHOUT NAVIGATION.

The only alterations to the vehicle that is required is that you have to do is disconnect the COMPASS wire (instructions in the video). If you don’t, it will interfere unpredictability with the GPS signal from your iPhone and send you off in a random direction.

If I can do this, anyone can!

the update works on the 2015 Honda CRV SE model and with easier steps.

the file is the same, however, the USB needs to be renamed as USB20FD in all caps, either format of exfat or fat32.

with your car in accessory mode and bluetooth turned off on your phone insert the USB stick in port 2 of the centre console.

the request of do you want to update the firmware from... to... proceed with yes, and wait, it may reboot again and install up to 99% and wait a few minutes. when it finally reboots the it will let you know when to remove the USB.

to bypass the audio code screen, start your car while holding down the start button for 10 seconds, then hold down the power button for 3 seconds and the follow the onscreen prompts again pressing power for 3 seconds.

there is a grey compass cable to disconnect from the back of the radio unit. it does not affect the cars compass display. failure to disconnect this cable may result in the apple car play maps to malfunction after a few weeks.

there is a link to a video that makes this very easy.

no need to use hex codes or modify the file in anyway, just name the USB accordingly. hope this helps, it is 2 years after.

I am extremely happy to see this work, the maps, and the music apps all show up, driving is safer too.

Does this work on CR-V SE with Navi, too?

Hi. I bought a verbatim 2.0 usb flash drive yet when I still formatted the usb to fat 32 and added the file, I still do not see anything on the screen. I clicked on the audio than to the usb, and it still doesn't recognize the usb flash drive. What do I do now? I have a roadtrip with my friends in 2 days, and I would like to have the carplay setup as it is easy to run waze and music. I'm open to any possible fixes.
