ive been working on a k20/k24 package for the 9th gen. and everyone is doing it wrong. even that turbo build with all the skunk junk. the old K20 valve cover will not seal with the front 9th gen timing cover it will spew oil as soon as it sees and run time. the HG is also an issue.

heres what ive done thus far and i think ive done it the most correct way possible. also if you ever see someone claiming they have a K20 head on their 9th with a stock 9th cover its because they are using the stock shitty intake cam the 9th comes with and a R40 VTC gear.

you are right k20z3allmotor, the 9th gen valve cover doesnt workt with the k20z3 VTC because the Valve cover doesnt clear the vtc cam bolt, we changed the bolt in the vtc and then it fits. Its just a matter of few mm less in the bolt head. we are still testing and tuning but we have 272whp and 201 torque

good luck when that slim bolt your using fails. you do realize it must be tq'ed to 87 ft lbs? not just tight, also at that point the 4 torx bit VTC bolts will scrap the case. this is not ideal and should really go about it different.

We made a a bolt at a local cnc machine shop and we used a better material so it has a higher resistance than the oem bolt. We wont have any problems there. After installing the bolt we triple check and the vtc clears the valve cover

I don't want to derail the thread too bad here, but I wanted to clarify something regarding the valve cover. We know that the older K20 valve covers leak on the K24z7. The issues of the vtc bolt hiting the valve cover, is that the same reason why the K20 valve cover doesn't work on the K24z7 head?

Never said they don't run strong.they are unreliable and leak.I've yet to see an LsV regardless what parts were used and how well it was maintained or abused.
Unless you have 2 unobtanium infused and built blocks.but it's not uncommon for them to have issues.50k is not really a milestone in the Honda book.

Ok, we'll both of mine were neither leaky or unreliable so I don't know what else to say. You backyard half ass build anything it will have issues. Do it right and you won't.
If that was true nothing would ever break.doesn't matter how much money you throw at an engine sometimes its just not meant to be.
It's like saying you can build a powerful high revving 22re ,you can't
Regardless what you use.
Sr20 no matter what, they have a weak breaking point at around 4-500 horse.
1jz had issues all the time no matter what you did to it.
Catch my drift

Anyways b20v or LsV or poorman type r are built to have fun and be throwaways.its. of something you build to daily drive and abuse for a long time with a lot of miles.they weren't made for it.
Even if you spent 40 k to have it built and blueprinted.it may last longer but still not like as if Honda built it from the get go.
