Anybody in Virginia know what the usual cost of an illegal window tint ticket goes for?
I'm trying to decide on an illegal 35% front window tint or just to be safe and go with 50%

I dont know the price of the ticket cost in VA but personally I'd say theres a good chance you could get away with a 35% front window tint. I have 35% on my front windows and Ive driven by cops all the time without getting pulled over.

I have 35% on my front windows
Whoa. I think that is awesome. Michigan can be strange but don't be surprised if you get pulled over and checked out even if you are a glaucoma patient. If you don't have paperwork, the State Troopers can write a moving violation as your windows are blocked while driving. Different than a fix it ticket. I got tired of being harassed. And I wasn't driving clean at the time. Double whammy.

I live in a resort community with it's own community-based police force. All they do is patrol and find reasons to pull people over and ticket them, so this is a risky move I might make depending on the cost of the ticket. If it's 100+ forget it.
Definitely want a darker tint than 50% though.. just a matter of if it's worth the potential trouble or not. Feel free to offer up your opinions, making this decision by the end of the night and having my coupe tinted tomorrow AM

Go legal on the tint, and wear sunglasses.

I live in NY I have 35% tints. Legal limit here is 70% . Many cops drive pass me and they don't bother me. I don't think cops just specifically target tints unless you have limo tints. But if you get pulled over for something or at a checkpoint than they will give you ticket for illegal tints on top of other violations. In these cases I just roll down all the windows. IMO 50% tints is not even worth it looks only slightly darker than factory window.

I am not sure we mean the same thing when talking percentages. That means the percentage light let in not %-age dark. Example of tint darkness percentages 2014/2015 Tint Laws Take a black car with a black interior, put 35% tint ON THE FRONT WINDSHIELD and you will not be able to see that person driving. Lol - nor will they enjoy sunlight and the benefits of melatonin. Click to the right for your laws. Of course for $200 one can claim medicinal marijuana and get a tint card if needed /if so - PM me - can use the wife's C-card to tint my windows for medical purposes!

Just my .02
If you go dark and get pulled over make sure you put all your windows down and keep both hands on the wheel. The real issue is if they can't see in the car when they approach they don't know what's going on. Getting the windows down and keeping your hands where they can be seen will make you safer, them a lot less stressed, and you less likely to get a ticket.

If that were actually the real issue with tint, why would they take such a risk to pull you over for something so frivolous to begin with? It's just a cash grab is all it is. Just like seatbelts.

Thanks for the input everyone, and thanks kgf3076 for the ticket cost info. I'm getting my windows tinted tomorrow morning through a local guy who runs his own mobile tinting business.
I've decided on 35% all around and if worst comes to worst and I get tickets I'll just have him re-tint it to 50%. I usually drive with the windows down anyways, at least while it's warm and sunny.

No matter what film percentage you go with, in my experience you will actually be darker because from the factory the windows are already 70%(according to the cop that pulled me over). I had 28% film installed and it read 20% on the cops tint-o-meter. I left it on though! Always have my trigger fingers ready to roll down the windows if I see a cop.

I ride through VA often(used to live there for quite a while) from MD and have 35% tint rode around VA Beach and everything with no tickets so far *knocks on wood*. Usually when I see a cop I open the sunroof which makes the tint look much lighter than it is, after court costs the fine is around $100-ish though.
