Random babbling: 2012 Si Interior comfort? Katzkin Leather?

I wrote a lot and if you'd rather skip to my questions scroll to the bottom (sorry).

In the next 2-3 years I'm probably going to be in the market for a new car (depending on what direction my career goes). I've owned an assortment of compact cars and compact pickups and I'd like the next car to be something kind of sporty while being very comfortable/somewhat luxurious. I know there's a lot of options, but much fewer if I want to keep it under $30k:

The VW GTI and Audi A3 tick all the right boxes, but I don't think my apprehensiveness towards VAG reliability is ever going to go away, plus I'd rather stay NA. The V6 Mustang Premium seems good too, but manual transmission seems prone to failure and I don't really want a car that I can only drive half the year (I've driven RWD in snow, but it seems to me with RWD and FWD both set up with snow tires FWD will fare better). Acura TSX is too heavy for the K24 to feel sporty (I've driven the 1st gen 6mt, only aspect of the car I wasn't impressed with). WRX Limited could be nice, but gets poor fuel economy. I like Honda products, my wife has a 2001 Honda Accord EX-L and it's great in all respects except that I wish it had more power.

I think I'd like the 2012 Civic Si more than the 2011 because I had a car with a high revving motor (Toyota's 2ZZGE) and I hated that I had to rev the snot of it to get any power out of it. Granted, Honda's K20 is a much better engine than Toyota's 2ZZGE (it's much more fun to run hard), but I really appreciate engines that have punch from 2500rpm onwards. So, the 2012 Civic Si seems perfect to me except that I have no idea how comfortable it is on long drives (I prefer driving over flying).

My main complaints about my current car (2006 Ford Focus) are: my lower back starts to kill me after 4 hours of driving and I really wish the engine had more torque; I hate needing to shift to 3rd to maintain 75mph up steep hills simply because the engine sounds very buzzy at almost 5000rpm. Ideally, with my next car I'd only have to drop to 4th (with a 5 or 6 speed), and considering the 2012 Si weighs about the same, provides 40 more ft/lb of torque and 70 more hp I think it can satisfy my power desires (being able to do 0-60 in 7 seconds or less would be great too).

So here's my questions:
2012 Civic Si Owners: How comfortable is your car on long drives? (8+ hours)
8th + 9th gen Civic Si Owners: Has anybody had Katzkin or other leather seats put in their Civic? Does it add anything to comfort, or is it just a different seat fabric?

Haven't driven that long in a stretch to tell, but I'll take cloth seats anyday over leather... just so much easier to maintain, and doesn't do the cold in winter/hot in summer thing leather does either. Leather wrinkles, cracks, and so on unless you take take super care of it, and even then you still get expansion/wrinkles some.

Honestly, I felt the same about leather until I got my wife's Accord. It's a nice surface. Cloth feels a lot more abrasive, and the maintenance argument is null since cloth stains more easily. My first car had vinyl seats (1974 Chevrolet Nova) and I didn't like the fabric at all, but actual leather for some reason I don't understand is a lot better. Cloth seats expand/sag with use as well. I'm with you on the hot/cold thing though.

I guess I just figured having leather in a Si would just make it feel and look like an expensive car (on the inside). I'm still really interested in any input on comfort from anybody that has taken their 2012 Si on 500+ mile trips.

Here's a picture I found of an 8th gen Si coupe with Katzkin leather.

My 2012 Civic Coupe is in the shop right now getting the interior upgraded to leather, the kit is a Katzkin kit.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you end up paying in total? The Honda dealership nearby quoted me $1,500 for the Katzkin kit, but i'm not sure if that includes service fees or labor charge.

Can't wait to see pics!

I'm not sure about a 8 hour drive in a si, I may take mind back to ne Ohio next summer but I'm not sure it will be a great long distance driver. The road noise might get old after about 4 hours and the seats may be too stiff, I didn't buy it to go cross country so i still love it

Longest I've ever driven was about an hour away and it wasn't bad at all...suspension is nice in the Si could be better but for coming factory the way it does I'd say it's perfect...only thing is once you get over 76 mph you're throwing money out the window cuz it burns it like the fiery pits of hell haha

I like the interior of my 2012 Si as is, but I am not really too picky when it comes to a car interior - as long as the seats fit me and are not firm, as well as the rest of the interior not appearing to be very very cheap I am good with it.

Side note: my wife's TSX and my S2000 have leather, and I hate the material. You slip and slide in it, and it's far too temperature sensitive. Cloth all the way!

I've driven my Si from Florida to San Antonio and I had no complains. They stay pretty firm after 12 hours or so of driving. I just wish they didn't get so dirty so quickly

I've driven the Si for 6 hours in a trip so far. I was comfortable. Be aware that the side impact airbags are located in the side of the seat. The manual advises against using seat covers because they can affect airbag operation.
