FLAPS = Friendly Local Auto Parts Store. I had inadvertantly left out the word 'my' which might have caused more confusion.

Agree about temps and battery life.
Extremes of either and deep cycling, of the OEM battery, will shorten the battery life.
The OEM battery in my Honda Fit lasted 7 years. The first replacement (Honda OEM battery) failed internally after 3 years (open circuit between plates.) Just out of warranty, so, no joy from Honda.

The OEM batter in my Civic failed at around 3 years of service. Electrolyte leakage around the positive terminal.
Honda warrantied that battery, no cost to me.
Exactly! I'm on my 3rd battery personately. Both the OE Craptastic and Interstate Megatron II lasted a little bit more then 2 years. Quebec's weather can go in both extremes depending on the season from -30/40 during winter to the mid 30 celcius during summer...

Battery size is 51R, and any battery that is rated as AGM would be a good choice.
I've got a Motomaster AGM (Made by Exide) and never has my starter cranked like that. Even in the cold!

My Honda battery died prematurely. My dealer offered a free replacement so I think Honda batteries are pretty good as long as they'll do that.

7 years is a record in these times !!!

My mechanic connects in a battery jumper box when changing them out.
Agreed! My civic is about 3.5 years old and I had the misfortune of experiencing a dead battery back in February when it was exactly at the 3 year mark. I was annoyed at having to miss my morning class the next day to have a new battery put in but I was more annoyed at having to do it for a car that was only 3 years old.

The factory battery from 2013 was in my car when I bought it in 2017. Died shortly there after. I went with that oreillys special cuz I got it for like 50$ No issues yet.
I used to live in the DFW area and it's known for eating batteries due to the heat. I did buy a lot of batteries there. Not as many now living in Dixie.

Greetings,

Just sharing the battery upgrade pics from my mom's 2013 Touring to a Group 35 battery from Costco.

The factory battery was replaced at 3 month and the replacement lasted till now (May 2019), so about 5 years. Last week car had a no start condition with "check brake system" message.

I reused the bottom tray, but cut the side plastic off and put a piece of plywood at the bottom, then fabbed a new hold down. I had to bend the hold down ears and the ECU mount slightly. Also remounted the wire clip that attaches to the hold down rod closer to the front of the car to relieve wire strain and protect the wires from rubbing on my metal hold down.

It's a tight fit, but nothing rubs, there are a few millimetres of clearance even in the tightest areas.

My only recommendation for someone doing this would be to find a battery that has flat tank covers on top. The costco one has protruding covers and the negative terminal rests on top. This doesn't cause any issues, but I'd prefer it were flat.

To make it looks more factory, I was thinking of trying a hold down from an Odyssey or other vehicle that comes with a larger battery.

I’m on my 4th battery on a 14. I just replaced it a few days ago with a Duracell from Sams. 3yr warranty. None of the batteries last more then 3 years.
My stock battery lasted 2.5 years died on a Sunday morning I didn't have time to shop around so I just grabbed a battery from the closest auto parts store and it's still going strong after 4.5 years got lucky I guess.

What battery did you get? My first Honda battery went about the same 2.5 years, the second one lasted two years, the last one was interstate and lasted 2.5 years. All junk lol
