Strange Tranny or cluth noise.

Hey i got a 2012 Civic LX manual sedan. I have noticed that when im changing gears i hear a light thud or pop. it usually happens when i put the cluch in, and then when i change gears i hear the transitioning of the gears. Usually only happens in the first 2-3 gears. Is this happening to you guys?

Do you hear a click when you change gears? Shift when the car is off and see if you hear anything.

I thought I was the only one in my si sedan...I can hear as well.

clutch pedal clicking?

This just started happening today and im not sure if I should be worried about it. I have about 1200 miles on my car...have been babying it for the whole time ive had it. But about an hour ago i noticed that everytime I depress the clutch, there's a faint clicking sound. It's not intrusive to driving, just sligtly annoying. I dont know what to think of this.

It was common on the EP3 and some accords (03-05). Surprised this came up...could just be isolated event.

But if it's what I think, you'll want some white lithium grease, or WD-40...something along those lines. Open your passenger door and kneel down while out of the vehicle and look at your clutch. Push your clutch with your hand and look at the top area of the clutch that leads to the firewall...when you hear the click you should almost be able to feel it...spray way up there and you'll eventually get the area that needs some grease.

This happened on my EP3 and 03 Accord.

Yeah, i actually got under there this morning before i went to class to see if i could hear it when i depress it with my hand...i can't feel it, but i can hear it. and it only happens when the car is on? its weird.

I had this in my 8th...it started as a click, progressed to a squeal and ended with a screech everytime I pressed the pedal (or let go of). Grease like the guys said works, buts its a temp fix. Your clutch master cylinder is the problem. I had mine replaced twice before it went away for good. Use that warranty man.
This happens on my tsx, I have to grease it all the time, but if it was under warranty I would be bringing it to a dealer every time
Yeah i heard about this problem in the 8th gen as well...it's just weird because the trans is completely different from the 8th gen, its the same as the tsx one, which would explain why corsport has the problem in an actual tsx. But if what you guys are talking about is true, with the master cylinder, that's kinda beat...the car has barely any mileage on it still and i've only been using it as a DD so far, not even running it hard. I'm gonna have to speak to the dealer aboutt this soon. I hope its not a recurring issue and can have a permanent fix :sad:

i have the clutch pedal clicking too on my 9th gen si...I'll take it to the dealership whenever I have time...My 9th gen si is still sitting at my sister's house until my 7th gen si is sold.

i have this issue as well, but i dont think its a huge deal, i also had this with my 2008 si, and even after upgrading to stage 1 exedy clutch and flywheel, still had the click. not too worried about it but if it starts causing any shifting issues then i may take it back, im pretty sure its not going to be warrantied though as it has to do with the clutch and clutch is not covered under warranty

I'm reporting back about the issue with some underwhelming news...took my car to the dealer today, they checked it out and said there was nothing wrong with it. The mechanaic said it sounded like a normal operating clutch. And they said only if Honda sends them a notice saying something about a recall, can they do something about it under warranty, since the clutch, as stated by this guy above, is not covered under warranty.

So I guess its normal! Hopefully nothing comes up that turns out otherwise.

Just a thought- Toyota had a clicking creaking noise problem years ago and eventually had a service bulletin or campaign with it. The noise was determined to be coming from the return spring and the fix included placing this small piece of porous foam in the center of the return spring. Presto-change-o everyone was happy.

Sit in the driveway with the engine running at normal idle rpm and run the shift pattern through every gear. I.E.: neutral, clutch, first; neutral, clutch, second. and so on. the only gear you may have but shouldn't have a problem with is reverse. Reverse will normally provide a slight thud or crunch. If you are having problems with the above your engine rpm may be too high; clutch may not be fully disengaging (due to defect or clutch adjustment; or it could be a synchronizer issue. Lucas oil has done wonders in correcting large truck shifting problems. When dino oil is used this will typically occur when the oil is cold. I have found that a sythetic oil is less likely to pruduce these symptoms when the trans is cold.

Manual tranny. Clicking sound.

Hi everyone

My name is Shane. I just bought a new 2012 LX coupe with a standard transmission. I have a question. Not always but some times as I release the clutch I can hear the gear shifting. Only happens in 1st and 2nd gear as far as I can tell. My cousin is a car guy and says since I've only got 900km its normal since the parts need time to mesh. Should I be concerned about this intermittant sound or let the car get a few thousand more kilometres before I take it in?

i have an lx sedan, i can hear thud sounds when shifting from 1st to 2nd but only when shifting on low rpm (2000-2500) when i shift from 3000 above its smooth all the way, well civics are high revving cars anyway

Ok.. I drove out of town today and got the car nice and hot. I've determined that the sound of shifting gears is only present when the car is hot and in motion. Most noticeable when coasting to a stop with the clutch in and moving up and down though the gears. It's a sort of clunk at various volume levels as I shift though the gears (not releasing the clutch). I also noticed when parking on the road that during a reverse when I finally push in the clutch that there is a kind of shake or rattle. I'm not sure if these are normal transmission sounds. I'm going to try to bring it into the dealer and have them look at it while I'm there and the car is hot. Can anyone else tell me if they have heard these types of sounds? (1000km on the car)

Thanks for your time

Yea, all those noises you are describing sound pretty normal to me. I've owned three manual transmission cars, and all have made similar noises. The shaking in reverse is probably because you're not giving it gas and coming close to the point of stalling the car. The car is still under warranty though, so it wouldn't hurt to take it to the dealership just for peace of mind.

thanks spazer. ive had a 2001 saturn with a standard transmission for 6 years and i don't really hear the transmission... but thats why thought i'd ask. as for the reverse shake its not what you think.. i know the shake you are describing.. this shake occors after i depress the clutch once i am done reversing. i'm used to a shake when you are gently reversing and not giving it gas.. but not used to it as a cause of pressing in the clutch.

wow, so when i turn my music down, i hear my clutch clicking too. it doesnt sound like shaking or anything said above, but its just a simple click that sounds like the turning blinker every time i depress the clutch. it didnt do this before, should i be worried?
