I have a civic lx and have an exact noise from shifting, its very noticable from 1st to 2nd and when shifting at low rpms(under 2500) i tried shifting at 3000 and noise is gone, i told the honda mechanic about this and he said that civics are high revving cars and shifting is at best from 3000 up

could be gas in the tank clunking around... this is very common

My guess is this is just cost-cutting on Honda's end, which should come as no surprise.

My Si definitely clunks and thunks when I'm shifting, and my clutch is squeaky too. However, I've found that if I shift around 4K RM (3500-4000) or so, the sound goes away. I only ever really hear it driving around in downtown Minneapolis when I've got a lot of traffic and can't always rev it way up.

Thankfully, the transmissions in this car are lightyears better than the 2006 Si I owned - I had so many issues with third gear on that car. They've definitely improved that, which at the end of the day, really matters to me.

Just wish they would've used more than paper to insulate the car...it's loud.

What you describe sounds normal, I also have an 2012 LX Same clunks. As for the car jerking in first gear going slowly, Thats normal for a Manual car. Its just a combination of first gear having more torque, and first gear creating more compression. Basically Quickly lurching forward with a bit of gas, and quickly decelerating when you let off.

This is not a problem, and will happen on any standard car ever. If you need to slow down say for like a speed bump, in first. Just release the clutch as you let off the gas. Problem solved. Or alternatively go full bore over the bump. :p

I have a 5 speed lx sedan that I've owned for over a year now. the car is a manual transmission (non si) and from day one ive been experiencing a strange noise. Its a clunking sound every time i shift but it only happens after driving for about 20 minutes, but not on the highway it must be on the street where you have to shift. The sound gets louder the longer you drive and is most noticeable when shifting under 2000. You can hear the clunks when the shift lever is moved and also when the clutch petal is released. Even if I hold the clutch down you can hear the noise best when moving the shift lever from second to third (clutch still in) although you can only hear this when the car is moving, it cannot be stopped.

Also, think of driving a manual in first gear at about 15 mph, your a little high in the revs and as you let off and get back on the gas there is a miniature jerk in the drivetrain felt throughout the car. The clunk is audible as the car jerks from being on the gas to off and off the gas to back on.

I have had many appointments with the dealership and nobody can figure this out, just today they told me that they heard the noise but when they called tech line (that's some sort of Honda department that the mechanics talk to) it was said that due to the 2012's "new body" that more noise will be heard inside the vehicle.

I think that is all BS and i was wondering if any of you guys had any ideas, or maybe someone who has a non si manual that can either confirm having this sound or someone with one of these cars that cannot hear anything at all. Thanks, a very aggravated Honda customer.....
I have the same exact problem like yours, and i also have a manual lx, try shifting around 3 or more rpm and the noise is gone, it works for me

I don't ever notice anything when I'm clutching in. But when my car was brand new it made a clicking noise as I release. But now its gone I'm guessing because its broken in. I'm at 14k now.

I started a thread similar to this lately (new member and didn't see this one)...

What I hear on my 2013 Civic LX is definitely not a "click". I'm sure it has nothing to do with the clutch pedal itself - sounds too "solid". It's both a sound and a feel. Sometimes when pushing the clutch in and letting it out. Once in awhile, if I clutch juuuuust right, I don't hear - or feel it. Almost like there is a bit of "slop" somewhere in the drive train. Maybe it's me, but if it is, this mechanism is really sensitive.

My '84 Accord and '95 Civic never did this.

Clutch Pedal Clicking

Did a search and didn't find anything on this but I did in the 8th civic forum. My brand new SI clutch pedal started clicking at about 1200 miles on it only. Guy's on the other forum had luck with spraying white lithium grease in the slave cylinder. I gave it a shot, but had no luck. I sprayed the spring up top, the pivot points, and sprayed the hell out of the slave cylinder. Shot grease in there like 4 times till it coming out all over. Don't know if that was a good idea or not, but others had luck with it so I gave it a shot. No dice, If I push the pedal in and out fast, it sounds like my blinker is on. I LOVE IT, I'm done with it. I'll turn the radio up and to hell with it. I've had it. Not taking it to the dealer either. Car has 1400 miles on it.

I realize this is a 3 year old thread. It seems that people are describing two different noises, and both started in my Si at 6500 miles.

One noise is that "click." I only hear it when I let the clutch out (for now), and it's only one click. I'm wondering if those of you who mentioned these clicks (that sounds like a switch) years ago are still hearing it, and if it's worth going to the dealer for it.

The other is the "thunk" when shifting into 2 and sometimes into 3. Just as everyone said, it's when RPMs are too low. A/C-on makes it worse, too. I noticed that I have to give the gas pedal a little kick (push) right before clutch-in for a smooth shift. This is what's tricky, though. When driving behind someone who accelerates really slowly, RPM is too low to shift into 2nd but roaring too much to stay in 1st. Cars moving slowly don't allow me to get to the ideal RPM, and if I wait a bit to give myself room to accelerate, impatient people behind me start beeping. Hence, the "thunk."

Many newer cars with eco-mode and color lights on the dash for mpg guidance makes my Si hold back with a grunt.
:biglaugh:
Perhaps, the non-Si manual Civics do that, too. The Si is like a hyper dog that wants to sprint from the start. I love it that it's rev-happy and breathes well driven hard. I can almost feel the Si grin when it's attacking the back roads. It sure is frustrating when I can't step on the gas enough to shift smoothly as soon as I get back to civilization. I feel for people who live in heavy traffic-prone areas.
