My clutch clicks/squeaks with 6,000 miles on the odometer and my transmission makes a clunking sound in 1-3 at low speeds if I don't rev it up enough.

Both are normal, I'd say. It makes the car seem cheap and not refined. I know it's a Civic, but my 2006 Si never did that. But then again, it did grind 3rd, spit out of gear into neutral, and locked me out of third every second time I shifted haha. There's always something unfortunately, even it changes year over year!

What's good everyone. New to the forums here. I know this thread is a bit old (and there are probably newer ones on the same topic), but I figured I'd post in here with my experience since it's the first one that came up on my search.

I have a new 2012 Civic Si sedan with just over 500 miles on it. I am hearing the exact same click when pressing in the clutch pedal as the original poster had mentioned. I hear it when the pedal is pressed in about 1/3 of the way or so.

Since the car was brand new, I ran it to the dealer to have them check it out. They said that it's normal, and they checked other Si's they had on the lot, and they said they all made the same sound.

I guess it's something that all, or most of the 2012's do, from what I've read. Probably just being paranoid and overly sensitive to every little sound in the new ride, but I have read some things about clutch master cylinders, springs in the pedal, etc., as reasons for the click, but the overall concencous seems to be that it's the electrical switch that hits when you press in the clutch and tells the car it's ok for you to start it.

Has anyone had any experience with this that proofed to be anything other they "it's just a sound the clutch pedal makes?" I've got a real solid Honda/Acura mechanic that would probably check it on the cheap or free for me, but I'm trying to figure if it's even worth taking it over (if he found something wrong, I'd of course go back to the dealer and demand it be fixed).

Thanks for any further input.

Mine mad the noise when new, somebody described it as the sound of a snapple lid being pushed in and out, so I figured it was the switch you talked about. It was very noticeable when new, but i never hear it anymore, not sure when it went away because I ignored it after having the car a few weeks, but I'm at 5300 miles on my car currently.

Hmmm, interesting. I wouldn't mind if mine ended up going away in a few hundred miles.

Just as an update...I contacted my very trustworthy Honda mechanic this morning. I explained the sound, and right away he knew what I was describing. He said he's seen it frequently in the '12 Si's, and that everyone he's checked out has been perfectly fine. He stated that it's just the natural of the clutch mechanism on these, and there's nothing wrong, it just the way it sounds. He went on to say that on a few he's even tried applying extra lube to the pedal mechanism, and it did nothing to remove the click.

I guess I'll just have to accept it as normal, and hope it either goes away, or that I get so used to it, I don't really notice it anymore.

Honda, like most other manufacturers, use the clutch switches as fine adjustment upper and lower pedal stops. What you are probably hearing is the assist spring clicking on the pedal frame as it curls up. You could probably stick a piece of felt or something in between there if it annoys you.

There's a faint click on my '12 Si ... I didn't notice it until I read this thread. It does not bother me. I can't hear it when the engine is running ... too noisy.

My 2002 Civic's clutch developed a squeak over the years ... way worse than a tiny click! The mechanics said the squeak couldn't be fixed without replacing the entire clutch (which worked fine otherwise) so I just lived with it.

Grease the clevis pin and the pivot on the pedal assembly. I use garage door lube 'cause it sprays far and sticks like crazy. Your mechanic sounds like he was having a lazy day.

The old Honda squeak was usually caused by the slave cylinder actually whenever I had to troubleshoot that noise.

The click on our Si's now is from a rather cheaply built switch.

lol. It's the same switch. Honda has been using it since at least 1988. I've got a box of them somewhere...

The switch is quieter on my '00 than it is on my '07 and both are quieter than my '12 so they must be making it with different materials and I suspect in an effort to save a couple bucks. And they do not get quieter with use. You do get used to it though.

Off to the salvage yard, then. I might swap the one out of the 88 just to see. I'd probably end up dissecting them both if they're diff.

Thump feeling

2012 civic si coupe, not all the time but sometimes when I go from 1st to 2nd I feel a thump when I disengage the clutch when I shift into 2nd. Anybody else has this problem or if it is even a problem?

I have a similar issue. I had the right axle replaced. Still having a knock...also feel it in the steering wheel!???My car has10k miles.

I get the "thump" noise from 1st to 2nd...and 2nd to 3rd. It happens twice, when i put the car into the next gear and then when i release the clutch. I also own an s2k and i work at honda, so it's not a matter of skill.

Ive driven with the radio off and attempted to do the 1-2nd or 2-3rd at multiple speeds and it only doesn't thump if your in vtec or close to redline...which it probably still does but it is much harder to hear.
I wonder what the problem could be and now im thinking cause of this thread it might not only be my 9th gen

I have the same issue. Shifting higher seems to make it go away, or maybe it's less noticeable when the engine is screaming into VTEC? Regardless, I'm really starting to get annoyed at some of the noises this car makes.
